We all know that one friend who swears by five hours of sleep. But what happens when the sleepless nights catch up?
Marrakech – We’ve all been there — wide-eyed at 2 a.m., scrolling through our phones, knowing we’re making a poor decision, but convincing ourselves we’ll be fine on just a few hours of sleep.
Bensons for Beds, the british bedding and mattress company, alongside Dr. Sophie Bostock, just gave us a glimpse of what happens when those late nights pile up in a new campaign they released.
Hannah, a digital model, was created to show what a woman’s body might look like in 2050 if she’s only getting six hours of sleep a night.
Spoiler alert: it’s not pretty.
Hannah’s hunched posture, thinning hair, and aged skin aren’t just the result of one sleepless night — they’re a warning.
Created using academic studies on the long-term impact of sleep deprivation, her features reveal the toll a lack of rest can take on our bodies.
“Hannah is a thought-provoking illustration of the holistic impact that sleep has on maintaining overall health,” stated Bostock in the campaign.
“Studies show that prolonged sleep deficiency can put you at a higher risk for conditions that may impact the heart — including obesity, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.”
It’s not just Hannah — science backs up the consequences of sleep deprivation.
Experts recommend seven to nine hours of sleep per night.
Chronic sleep deprivation doesn’t just make you tired — it impacts everything from cognitive function to immune health.
Studies show it can weaken the body’s ability to fight off illness and impair memory and decision-making.
The long-term effects are even more concerning, with chronic lack of sleep linked to serious health risks like cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
So next time you’re debating that extra hour of scrolling, think again.
It turns out, beauty sleep is more than just a catchphrase — it’s the key to a healthier, longer life.
