Rabat – Ghanaian authorities have taken possession of Charles Nii Armah‘s luxury car per request from the US. The vehicle is allegedly linked to proceeds of crime from the Ghanaian star, better known as Shatta Wale.
Wale denies connection to Ghanaian Nana Kwabena Amuah who is allegedly tied with the car, claiming he is a “third-party owner” of the 2019 Lamborghini Urus. Amuah is currently in US jail serving a seven-year term for fraud.
Amuah and his accomplices had impersonated vendors to defraud roughly 70 public and private organizations through wiring money into bank accounts, according to US court records.
“I don’t know who shipped [it] to the country,” said the musician.
Wale is a very popular artist in Ghana and is mainly recognized for his collaboration with well-renowned international stars such as Beyonce.
After authorities stormed his home with firearms to get hold of the vehicle, Wale criticized officials online, posting, “Bringing guns to my house was uncalled for,” on his social media. He feels offended and humiliated by the agency’s chief executive. The singer noted that he had to present official documents to prove he had bought the car for $150,000 (about 1,359,300,000 MAD).
Ghana’s Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) claimed that the luxurious yellow car will be returned to the US following a formal ask from the US Justice Department and FBI for mutual legal assistance as part of Amuah’s restitution of $4.7M (about 42,591,400 MAD).
“It is a standard safety protocol for officers of the surveillance and asset recovery unit to carry weapons whilst on operation for their safety,” EOCO said in a statement. The car is now fully in their custody.
