Casablanca – Villa des Arts in Rabat is hosting “Nature Morte” (Still life), a solo exhibition by Moroccan artist Halima Forati, running from April 16 to May 31.

As a self-taught artist, Forati has developed a distinctive hyperrealistic style, building her work on precision and control, where every detail is carefully constructed rather than casually observed.

Instead of painting directly from the surrounding world, she creates her own visual setups using photographs she takes herself.

From traditional Moroccan mosaics to everyday utensils, each composition begins with objects she personally arranges, before capturing them through the lens.

At the heart of her process is a deliberate intention, where nothing is left to chance.

Each image is carefully constructed by the artist herself, staged through her own lens, allowing her full control over what is captured, composed, and ultimately translated onto the canvas.

What defines Forati’s work is not the single image itself, but what happens when several of them collide. She builds her scenes like fragments coming together, layering visuals until the background itself becomes part of the composition rather than a passive setting.

“Still life” is traditionally rooted in domestic settings, yet it carries its own artistic independence, one that aligns with her introspective and solitary way of working.

Through “Nature Morte,” Villa des Arts offers a closer look at how a self-taught Moroccan artist is reworking hyperrealism through staged photography, technical precision, and cultural references drawn from everyday heritage.
