Rabat – Miley Cyrus has joined Barbie’s most exclusive club: the doll aisle. Mattel unveiled its Barbie Signature Miley Cyrus doll this week. This release comes not long after Cyrus was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in the same year Hannah Montana turns 20.
Mattel did not only make a Miley doll. It made a career milestone.
Barbie launched in 1959, borrowing glamour from the stars of that era such as Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe.
However, the first doll built as an actual celebrity likeness did not arrive until 1967 when “Twiggy,” the British supermodel who defined the decade’s look, became the first celebrity Barbie.
“Cher” and “Audrey Hepburn” followed over the next few decades, alongside designer collaborations with “Oscar de la Renta” and “Bob Mackie” which established the “collectible” tier that Mattel now runs as a business line, completely separate from the toy-aisle version of the doll.
Miley Cyrus now joins Barbie’s Signature Music Series; a defined lane with its own release rhythm and its own collector market. “Stevie Nicks” got her doll in 2023, dressed in the same black dress from the Rumours cover.
“Tina Turner” was honored in 2022, with her barbie recreating her “What’s Love Got to Do With It” video look.
Miley Cyrus now sits inside the same rotation. The doll draws inspiration from two recent visual looks rather than her broader career catalogue. The outfit is a head-to-toe faux leather biker inspired featured in her “Something Beautiful” film, including a bralette, narrow-leg pants, and a dramatic belted jacket with an oversized hood.
The doll is fully poseable rather than static which is part of the Signature line.
In a video shared by Billboard, Miley Cyrus called the doll “obsessed, love her” and mentioned how important the small details were to her like the shape of the shoes, the dimensions of the hair and the little microphone Miley’s Barbie holds, which she said mattered because keeping music at the heart of her work is important for her
