Rabat – Tyga has confirmed that artificial intelligence was used in the creative process behind his new album, “$tarface,” following weeks of speculation from fans.
The rapper unveiled the project as an “80s-inspired” alter ego, complete with synth-heavy production and a retro sound that immediately drew comparisons to AI-generated music.
Rather than deny the claims, Tyga addressed the speculation in a new interview with VIBE, saying, “We definitely used AI as a tool.”
He acknowledged that the admission could draw criticism but described AI as a natural part of the direction music technology is taking.
The rapper compared the backlash to the criticism Auto-Tune received when it first entered the mainstream, emphasizing that new technologies often face resistance before they become widely accepted in the music industry.
Tyga clarified that AI was used only for select production elements, while the songwriting and vocal performances remained entirely his own.
For Tyga, “$tarface” is less about defending the use of AI and more about the mood the album creates.
He said he wants the album to give listeners “an experience and a feeling,” rather than have them focus on how each sound was created.
The AI speculation surrounding “$tarface” comes amid a broader debate in hip-hop, following similar claims involving other artists experimenting with ’80s-inspired, synth-driven sounds earlier this year.
Tyga’s decision to address the issue publicly sets him apart from artists who have remained silent over claims, adding him to a growing number of mainstream musicians acknowledging g AI as part of the modern music-making process.
