Rabat – Lebanese-French trumpeter and composer Ibrahim Maalouf will perform in Rabat’s Royal Theater on September 22 as part of his “Trumpets of Michel-Ange Vol. 2” world tour.
The Rabat show will bring Maalouf’s latest musical project to Morocco as he continues a tour spanning several continents.
His official concert schedule includes upcoming performances in Johannesburg on September 25-26, followed by dates across Europe in October and November.
Maalouf released “Trumpets of Michel-Ange Vol. 2” on June 1. The nine-track album continues the project he launched with the first Trumpets of Michel-Ange, which went on to generate millions of streams and more than 140 concerts worldwide.
The project centres on the quarter-tone trumpet, an instrument developed by Maalouf’s father, trumpeter Nassim Maalouf, in the 1960s.
Ibrahim has made the instrument a defining part of his sound, using it to connect Arabic musical traditions with jazz and other contemporary influences.
The new album also expands the project through collaborations with international musicians, including Jon Batiste, Trombone Shorty, MonoNeon, Pedrito Martinez, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Nai Barghouti, and Richard Galliano.
Born in Beirut in 1980, Maalouf built an international career that crosses jazz, classical, pop and Middle Eastern music.
Over the years, he has worked with artists including Sting, Angélique Kidjo and Marcus Miller, while also composing for film and other performance projects.
His September 22 appearance will mark a Moroccan stop on the latest chapter of the Trumpets of Michel-Ange project, bringing his signature quarter-tone trumpet sound to Rabat.
