Fez — Moroccan-Belgian singer DYSTINCT has released his new single “Katkouta” today, adding another Arabic pop track to a run of releases that has expanded his international audience.

The title comes from the Arabic word “katkouta,” literally meaning “little chick,” but commonly used as an affectionate term for someone cute, sweet, or adorable.

On the track, DYSTINCT turns the expression into a romantic hook built around his familiar mix of Arabic pop melodies, rhythmic production, and simple, repeatable lyrics.

The song includes the line, “Tab’an, helwa katkouta, gamila ya 3asoula,” which roughly translates to: “Of course, you are as sweet as a katkouta, you are beautiful, my little honey.”

A song that went viral before release

“Katkouta” had already begun circulating weeks before its official release.

DYSTINCT teased a short excerpt on social media earlier this summer, and according to promotional material shared around the release, the sound generated nearly 10,000 user-created TikTok videos in less than a month.

That early traction fits a release strategy DYSTINCT has used repeatedly: introducing a hook before the full track lands, then allowing short-form platforms to build familiarity around it.

The new single follows “HAJDE,” his collaboration with Albanian rapper Noizy, which Spotify lists among his latest releases.

It also arrives during a particularly visible period for the artist outside music.

PUMA Middle East named DYSTINCT the face of its “Never Not Suede” campaign in July, making him the centerpiece of a regional campaign built around music, fashion, and sport.

DYSTINCT’s global reach keeps growing

DYSTINCT has also continued to build substantial streaming numbers.

Spotify currently shows the artist with more than 10.9 million monthly listeners and describes his catalog as having surpassed 2 billion streams.

His 2025 single “YAMA” has also become one of his most visible recent releases. Spotify songwriter data records more than 72 million streams for the track on the platform alone.

Promotional material for “Katkouta” says the song has passed 200 million views on YouTube, further underlining the gap between DYSTINCT’s reach across different platforms.

His broader catalog continues to reflect the multilingual and cross-regional approach behind his rise. Spotify highlights his mix of North African melodies, Afrobeats, reggaeton, and French rap, as well as his use of Darija, Dutch, and French.

“Katkouta” does not radically change that formula. Instead, it leans into the light, instantly recognizable hooks that have become central to DYSTINCT’s recent releases.

With the song already circulating heavily before release, the test now is whether its pre-launch TikTok momentum can translate into another sustained streaming hit.
