Fez — Moroccan rug cooperative Izza Berber is taking its traditional weaving craft to two major international design events this September, with appearances scheduled in Paris and New York.

The cooperative will first exhibit at Maison & Objet (Home & Object) in Paris from September 10 to 14, where it plans to present its latest collection of handcrafted Berber rugs. The official fair directory confirms Izza Berber among exhibitors for the September edition.

Less than two weeks later, the Moroccan cooperative will cross the Atlantic for COVER Connect New York, the annual trade fair dedicated to high-end handmade rugs.

The event will run from September 26 to 28 at the Metropolitan Pavilion and The Altman Building in Manhattan. Organizers have included Izza Berber among the selected brands participating in this year’s edition.

Moroccan craftsmanship heads to New York

Announcing its participation, Izza Berber said it would travel to New York with rugs connecting centuries-old techniques with contemporary design.

“We are coming to New York to present unique rugs that carry the heritage of a millenary art, combining tradition, craftsmanship, and contemporary design,” the cooperative said.

COVER describes Izza Berber as a cooperative of Moroccan artisans that produces handmade rugs while supporting the economic and social empowerment of women weavers.

Working primarily with natural fibers, its artisans specialize in Beni Ouarain, Hanbel, and Hassira rugs.

According to both COVER Connect and the cooperative’s profile, Izza Berber is the only cooperative in Morocco producing Hassira rugs. It also offers custom-made pieces rooted in traditional Moroccan weaving practices.

The cooperative says every rug is made entirely by hand and reflects knowledge passed between generations of Berber women.

Two international stages in one month

The Paris and New York appearances place Izza Berber before two different audiences within the international interiors industry.

Maison & Objet brings together professionals working across design, decoration, craft, lifestyle, and related sectors.

COVER Connect New York, meanwhile, focuses specifically on handmade rugs and carpets. The trade-only Manhattan event brings together international rug brands, buyers, retailers, designers, and other industry professionals.

The 2026 New York edition marks the sixth year of the event, which began in 2021 with 12 exhibitors and has since expanded across two neighboring Chelsea venues.

For Izza Berber, the back-to-back exhibitions offer another opportunity to place Moroccan artisanal knowledge within contemporary international design spaces.

The appearances also reflect a broader path for Moroccan craftsmanship, as traditional techniques increasingly reach global audiences through products that preserve their origins while adapting to contemporary interiors.
