Rabat – The famous French mystery thriller, “Lupin,”  comes back to Netflix tomorrow, with eight new episodes that offer twists and a big new challenge for the character.

Omar Sy is back as Assane Diop, the thief who is based on the fictional character Arsène Lupin. However, the fourth part of the show goes in a different way, as Assane tries to stop being a criminal before a series of mysterious museum robberies threatens to destroy his plans.

Four years after the events of Part 3, Assane is still in prison. He hopes to keep a promise to his son, Raoul, and reunite with his family in Senegal.

But his plans change when an announcement signed “Lupin” reveals that several museums will be targeted in coordinated robberies. The thefts succeed despite heightened security, and evidence points directly to Assane.

A camera even appears to place him inside one of the museums during a robbery in which police officer Sofia Belkacem is seriously injured.

To prove his innocence and uncover the identity of the criminal imitating his methods, Assane must escape prison and become Lupin once again.

Omar Sy returns alongside familiar faces

Part 4 brings back several familiar characters whose relationships with Assane will be tested by the new crimes.

Ludivine Sagnier returns as Claire, Assane’s long-time partner and Raoul’s mother, while Etan Simon returns as their son. Antoine Gouy also returns as Benjamin Ferel, Assane’s loyal friend and trusted accomplice.

Soufiane Guerrab reprises his role as detective Youssef Guédira, whose knowledge of literature helps him understand Assane’s methods.

Shirine Boutella returns as police lieutenant Sofia Belkacem, whose injury during the museum robberies adds another complication to the investigation. Naky Sy Savané returns as Mariama, Assane’s mother, who was rescued in Part 3.

The cast also includes Théo Christine and Laïka Blanc-Francard.

The story behind Netflix’s ‘Lupin’

‘Lupin’ was inspired by Arsène Lupin, the fictional gentleman thief created by French author Maurice Leblanc in 1905.

Part 4 continues to follow the storyline of Assane Diop, a man who admires Lupin and uses ideas from his adventures in his own life, such as disguises, fake identities, secret codes and clever plans to trick people and carry out his crimes.

Speaking to Netflix, Sy described the project as an ongoing source of enjoyment, saying, “I often say that Lupin is an extraordinary plaything. I find great joy in it every time.”

Omar Sy will also work alongside Louis Leterrier as co-showrunner and co-producer.

Will ‘Lupin’ Return for Part 5?

Netflix has not officially confirmed a fifth instalment of Lupin. However, there has been no announcement that Part 4 will conclude the series.

The show’s international popularity and Sy’s expanded role behind the scenes leave room for further adventures, depending on the reception of the upcoming episodes.
