Rabat– American Olympic medalist Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested last weekend at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on allegations that she assaulted her boyfriend and fellow US Track Team star, Christian Coleman.
Richardson was arrested on Sunday on a fourth-degree domestic violence offense. According to the police report, an officer at the airport was notified of a disturbance between the couple by a Transportation Security Administration supervisor.
The camera footage was reviewed and Richardson is seen reaching out and yanking Coleman’s backpack away. Richardson then shoved Coleman and threw headphones at him, according to the official report.
“I was told Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim,” the officer said in the police report.
Richardson was released the next day from the South Correctional Entity (SCORE) in Des Moines, Washington.
“She’s a human being and a great person,” said Coleman after his race at the US Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday.
“She’s going to bounce back because she’s the best female athlete in the world”
The athlete responded to reporters about the incident, explaining he did not feel his partner deserved to be arrested and that he declined to press charges.
“USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter,” US Track and Field said in a statement.
Richardson is an internationally respected athlete with a silver medal from last summer’s Paris Games and the 2023 world champion in the 100 meter sprint. The athlete also assisted the USA team to a 4×100 relay Olympic gold win.
The trackstar had a positive marijuana test at the 2021 US Olympic trials, withholding her from competing at the Tokyo Olympics.
