Rabat – The Thai Embassy in Rabat has confirmed that Moroccan tourists will soon enjoy visa-free entry to Thailand. However, the embassy clarified that the policy, while approved, has not yet been implemented, and the exact start date remains unknown.
This confirmation follows a recent announcement saying that Morocco is among several new countries to be granted visa-free entry to Thailand, allowing Moroccan visitors to stay for up to 60 days without a visa. Initially, it was reported that these changes would take effect on June 1, but the implementation has since been delayed.
The embassy’s confirmation comes after conflicting information has surfaced, leading to widespread speculation about the accuracy of the new visa measures.
The new visa policies are part of Thailand’s broader strategy to enhance its appeal as a global tourist destination. The initiative aims to expand the list of countries eligible for visa-free entry from 57 to 93 to attract more international visitors. Other notable countries included in this expansion are Cambodia, China, India, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Laos, Mexico, and Uzbekistan, among others.
“Nationals of the following 93 countries and territories are entitled to visa exemption for the purpose of tourism and short-term business engagements, for a period of not exceeding 60 days,” the embassy said in a statement on Facebook.
In addition to expanding visa-free entry, the Thai cabinet has approved extending visa-on-arrival privileges to 31 countries, up from the previous 19.
The introduction of a new five-year visa, the “Destination Thailand Visa,” targets digital nomads, remote workers, freelancers, and those interested in learning Muay Thai and Thai cuisine, allowing for extended stays of up to 180 days, with a possible extension for another 180 days.
Thailand has also made changes to its policies for foreign students in higher education and long-stay applicants aged 50 and above. Foreign students can now stay in Thailand for one year after graduation, while the compulsory health insurance coverage for long-stay applicants has been reduced from 3 million baht to 440,000 baht, effective from September to December.
In addition, the e-visa application services at Thai consulates and embassies is set to be expanded from 47 to 94 locations.
