Switzerland – Scheduled for May 4, the star-studded Met Gala will elevate its creative legacy with the “Fashion Is Art” theme, highlighting a celebration of artistic expression.

This year’s dress code challenges attendees to treat their ensembles not simply as outfits, but as works of art.

Rather than prescribing a narrowly defined aesthetic, “Fashion is Art” encourages guests to draw inspiration from fashion’s dialogue with artistic movements, historical references, and the human form itself.

Leading the event will be co-chairs Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour, alongside a star-studded host committee of creatives expected to deliver a wide range of red-carpet interpretations.

The host committee also includes Zoë Kravitz and Anthony Vaccarello, further underscoring the evening’s close ties to both contemporary culture and cutting-edge fashion design.

The evening will also celebrate the opening of the Met’s new 1,115 square meters Condé M. Nast Galleries, a space dedicated to elevating fashion within the museum’s artistic canon.

Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton has emphasized that the accompanying exhibition centers on the “centrality of the dressed body,” pairing fashion with sculpture, paintings, and historical artifacts to highlight how clothing functions as both subject and medium in artistic practice.

The exhibition is set to open following the Met Gala on May 10.

As anticipation builds toward one of the biggest fashion events of the year, insiders and fans alike are already speculating how “Fashion is Art” will reshape one of the most watched and celebrated nights in style, further cementing couture’s place within the world of fine art.
