Fez — Morocco has ranked first in Africa for mobile internet speed in 2025, placing 39th worldwide according to the “Speedtest Global Index,” with an average download speed of 124.32 Mbps.

Recent rankings place Morocco at the top of Africa for mobile internet performance, with average speeds around 123.87 megabits per second (Mbps). This figure more than doubles that of many other African countries and reflects heavy investments in telecommunications infrastructure, widespread 4G coverage, and the rollout of commercial 5G services that began in late 2025.

These improvements have also produced a sharp rise in Morocco’s global position. By the end of December 2025, Morocco climbed 22 places in the worldwide mobile internet rankings, reaching 39th globally — a remarkable leap linked to the expansion of next-generation networks.

The country’s leadership in mobile speeds underscores how quickly its digital landscape is evolving. Telecommunications operators and regulators have focused on modernising network infrastructure, improving coverage, and reducing latency, contributing to a better online experience for users across the Kingdom.

While Morocco is now at the forefront of mobile internet performance in Africa, fixed broadband speeds tell a more mixed story. In that category, the country’s rankings remain more modest on the global stage, and differences persist between urban and rural connectivity levels.

Yet, the rapid gains in mobile connectivity signal progress in bridging digital divides and positioning Morocco as a regional digital hub.

The growth in internet performance aligns with broader national strategies aimed at accelerating digital transformation. Building on high user penetration rates and ongoing technology upgrades, Morocco’s rise in speed rankings illustrates how network investments and regulatory support can drive digital competitiveness in emerging economies.
