Rabat – Netflix, Inc. announced yesterday it is acquiring InterPositive, the filmmaking technology company founded by Academy Award winner Ben Affleck.

InterPositive develops AI-powered tools designed specifically for filmmakers, with a mission to “use emerging technology in ways that protect and expand creative choice,” according to a Netflix news statement.

For more than two decades, Netflix has paired technology with artistry to help films and shows reach audiences globally.

The addition of InterPositive’s team, alongside Affleck joining as Senior Advisor, reflects Netflix’s commitment to innovation that keeps storytellers at the center of the creative process.

A filmmaker’s vision for responsible AI

Affleck’s approach to AI in filmmaking stems from observing early AI production tools and recognizing their limitations for storytelling.

In a statement, he explained that InterPositive was created to “preserve what makes storytelling human, which is judgment, the kind that takes decades to build, experience to hone and that only people can have.”

The company’s proprietary workflow captures production environments in controlled conditions, allowing AI models to understand visual logic, editorial consistency, and cinematic rules while maintaining creative intent.

Affleck emphasized that InterPositive’s tools are designed for “responsible exploration while keeping creative decisions in the hands of artists,” ensuring that technology serves the story, not the other way around.

Netflix perspective

Elizabeth Stone, Netflix Chief Product and Technology Officer, highlighted the alignment between Netflix and InterPositive, stating, “The InterPositive team is joining Netflix because of our shared belief that innovation should empower storytellers, not replace them.”

“InterPositive’s impressive technology is purpose-built for filmmakers and showrunners to work with tools that naturally support their creative visions and how they want to bring them to life.”

On her end, Bela Bajaria, Netflix Chief Content Officer, added, “Ben and his team at InterPositive are part of a long tradition in our industry of artists leading the way in how innovation is used in storytelling. Their work is about giving filmmakers more choices, more control and more protection for their vision.”
