Fez — The “Association des rencontres méditerranéennes du cinéma et des droits de l’Homme” (Mediterranean Encounters Association for Cinema and Human Rights, ARMCDH) has launched an open call for films for its next “White Night of Cinema and Democracy,” scheduled for June 26 and 27 on the esplanade of the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat.

The event positions cinema as a tool for civic reflection, encouraging directors and producers to interrogate the tensions, ideals, and lived realities of democracy through moving images.

Organizers say the “White Night” is designed as more than a screening marathon, framing it as a space where the public and professionals can meet, exchange, and debate the role of cinema in society.

A broad call across formats and genres

The call is open to emerging talents as well as established filmmakers. Fiction, documentary, animation, essay films, experimental works, and hybrid formats are all eligible, whether short, medium, or feature length.

By keeping the selection open to different cinematic languages, organizers are signaling an interest in how democracy can be explored through multiple registers, from intimate personal narratives to investigative storytelling, satire, and poetic or symbolic forms.

Submission deadline and how to apply

Filmmakers must submit their works by May 10.

Additional guidance shared with the call indicates submissions are handled by email, with applicants asked to send a viewing link and a project file to the organizers’ address, using a subject line that references the call and the film title.
