Rabat – Today, at Abla Ababou gallery, sculptor Jamil Bennani presented his latest solo exhibition, “Matières et tensions,” a body of work that transforms material into dialogue, balancing structure, emotion, and inherited craft.

The opening drew a strong crowd, with an atmosphere defined by movement, conversation, and immediate engagement with the works on view.

The energy in the space reflected the nature of Bennani’s sculptures themselves: alive, layered, and quietly charged.

Speaking about the gallery, Jamil Bennani mentioned that he and Ababou  “already share a strong connection built over a long, shared history,” adding, “We even had a gallery together in the past.”

Bennani, a master wood sculptor, traces his artistic identity back to both lineage and lived experience.

“Sculpture is something I have inherited through my life journey,” he told MWN Lifestyle, noting a family background shaped by his father, a painter.

At the core of the exhibition is a tension he describes as creative necessity.

“Matter and tension come together to create distinctive, dynamic forms that push us toward a deeply creative beyond,” he said, framing the work as a process of transformation rather than resolution.

For Bennani, the exhibition extends beyond form into feeling.

“This is a form of emotional sharing,” he noted, emphasizing the relational aspect of his practice. “We are here as artists to bring joy and to offer something beautiful.”
