Rabat – Like Saudi Arabia and the UAE, US Muslims will celebrate Eid Al Fitr tomorrow Friday, April 21.

The Fiqh Council of North America announced the Eid Al Fitr date in a previous publication earlier this year, stressing that the Astronomical New Moon is on Thursday, April 20.

“On April 20, the elongation is more than 8 degrees and the moon is more than 5 degrees above the sun everywhere in North America. Hence the first day of Shawaal is on Friday, April 21, 2023,” the council said.

Shawwal is the tenth month in the Islamic calendar, marking the end of Ramadan.

Eid Al Fitr is also on Friday in a number of countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Egypt.

Several other countries like Morocco, however, are celebrating Eid on Saturday, and therefore completing 30 days of fasting unlike Saudi Arabia and other countries that will fast for 29 days.

Like all Muslims across the world, Muslims in the US attend Eid prayers and listen to the sermon prepared by their mosques’ imams on the occasion.

Muslims wear their finest clothes during the feast, where they exchange visits and sometimes gifts between each other.

The US is home to over 3 million Muslims of all ages as of April 217, according to a study from the Pew Research Institute.

Muslims account for about 1% of the total US population, according to the same study.
