Rabat – Mohammed V National Theater in Rabat is welcoming audiences back this September with a new season featuring Moroccan theater, fado, spiritual music, and orchestral performances.
The season opened on September 8 with Qaïd Al Oued, presented by Theatre Arlequin in co-production with the Mohammed V National Theater.
Written and directed by Omar Jadli, the play stars Abderrahim El Meniari, Mounia Lamkimel, Jawad El Alami, and Hamid Mourchid.
On September 10, Portuguese fado singer Teresinha Landeiro will take the stage as part of the 16th edition of the Festival du Fado, held over two days under the theme “Fado and the Neighborhoods of Lisbon.”
The traveling festival brings fado and its major figures to cities across Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia through 21 annual stops.
The theater will also host a spiritual evening on September 12 with the official troupe of the Cherkaouia Zaouia, led by Hadj Mohamed al Ghorf.
The performance will center on devotional music and samaa, offering audiences an evening rooted in Moroccan spiritual traditions.
Later in the month, the Moroccan Professional Union of Song Creators, in partnership with the Department of Culture and in collaboration with the Mohammed V National Theater, will present the sixth edition of the “Rabat, Capital of Lights of Culture and Arts” Festival.
Held under the theme “Festival of Great Orchestras,” the event will run on September 17-18, featuring performances built around the oud and elements of Andalusian musical heritage.
