Marrakech is hosting “Between Al-Jandoul and Al-Atlal,” a night of nostalgia and music on June 20 at the Palais des Festivals & des Congrès, bringing Umm Kulthum and Mohammed Abdel Wahab to life.

The evening pays tribute to two of the most iconic voices in Arab music, whose songs have shaped generations and continue to echo across the region’s collective memory.

Performances will be delivered by Abdellah Bayati and Chaimae Imran, guiding the audience through a carefully curated journey of some of the most celebrated classics in Arabic music history.

On the occasion of International Music Day, the tribute becomes more than a concert, evolving into a shared moment of remembrance for songs that have long transcended time and geography.

For many Moroccans, these melodies are deeply familiar, carried through family moments, old recordings, and a musical heritage that has remained present across decades.

The Egyptian music scene, in particular, has long held a special place in Moroccan listening culture.

A different listening experience

The upcoming evening will feature iconic pieces such as Umm Kulthum’s “Al Atlal” and Abdel Wahab’s “Al-Jandoul,” bringing their distinct emotional worlds back to the stage.

Unlike today’s fast-paced listening habits, these classics unfold over extended compositions, allowing space for emotion, storytelling, and musical depth that listeners continue to connect with.

More than artists of the past, Umm Kulthum and Mohammed Abdel Wahab remain cultural pillars whose music continues to shape how Arab audiences experience song today.

The upcoming tribute comes at a time when the regional cultural calendar is also filled with major concerts and festivals across different cities, including shows by Hussain Al Jassmi and Elissa in Rabat.

Against this broader musical momentum, “Between Al-Jandoul et Al-Atlal” adds its own Marrakech chapter, offering audiences a more intimate encounter with the timeless repertoire of Arab music.
