Rabat – After years of speculation, Apple has finally entered the foldable smartphone market.
The company unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, on September 9, introducing a new design that opens from a compact smartphone into a larger screen, which could be considered a mini tablet.
The iPhone Duo features 3.7 cm outer display and 19.3 cm inner display when unfolded.
The launch marks Apple’s entry into a category where companies such as Samsung, Huawei, and Google have already introduced competing foldable devices.
A New look for iPhone
The foldable device uses a book-style folding design, with a titanium frame and a custom hinge designed to keep the internal display flat when opened.
Apple describes it as its thinnest iPhone ever when fully unfolded. The design also allows users to run two apps simultaneously and adapt the display to different positions.
Based on Apple’s description, the new device is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip and supports the Apple Pencil, giving users a larger workspace on their smartphone.
It also features dual 48-megapixel rear cameras and a 12-megapixel front camera.
When can you get the phone and for how much?
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 (MAD 18,768) for the 256GB model, making it Apple’s most expensive iPhone design yet. Storage options go up to 2TB, with the highest-capacity version priced at $3,199 (MAD 30,000).
According to Apple, pre-orders for the Duo will begin on October 16, followed by its official release on October 23.
For the company, the launch represents one of the biggest changes to the iPhone’s design since the original smartphone arrived in 2007.
Now, the question is whether consumers will be ready to pay a premium price for a phone that folds in half.
