Fez — Belgian-Moroccan DJ and music producer Zaatar has released “Bahnsteigkante,” a new single combining electronic production with the raw energy of rock music.

Released on October 16 through Breathing Records, the track features distorted electronic sounds, heavy percussion, and electronically processed vocals.

The song forms part of the label’s “INHALE Vol. 2” compilation, which brings together artists exploring alternative approaches to electronic music.

Based in France, Zaatar works across musical styles including electronic body music (EBM), new beat, and post-punk, drawing inspiration from the darker sounds of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Exploring the space between rock and electronic music

With “Bahnsteigkante,” Zaatar moves between the mechanical rhythms associated with electronic music and the physical intensity of rock percussion.

The track features vocals processed through a vocoder, an electronic device that transforms the human voice into a synthesized sound.

These effects contrast with the heavier percussion, creating a composition that draws on both club music and alternative rock.

According to electronic music publication Side-Line, which reported on the release on October 17, Zaatar wrote, performed, and mixed the track herself.

The recording took place in France before its release under license to Breathing Records.

The single highlights the producer’s interest in moving beyond the conventions of traditional dance music, drawing together influences that are not always associated with the same musical scene.

A Moroccan-origin artist in Europe’s electronic music scene

Zaatar has been developing her musical identity through original productions, DJ performances, and collaborations with independent record labels.

Her latest release follows “First Crush,” an EP released on September 11, 2026.

That project followed her 2025 EP “The Sound of Z,” another exploration of the musical influences shaping her work.

American music publication EARMILK covered the new release on October 16, highlighting its combination of rock percussion and electronic production.

Her work belongs to a European underground scene in which DJs and producers increasingly combine influences from post-punk, industrial music, and alternative electronic genres.

While Zaatar’s Moroccan heritage forms part of her personal background, her latest release does not explicitly present itself as an exploration of traditional Moroccan music.

Instead, “Bahnsteigkante” reflects her continuing interest in experimentation and the development of an individual sound within Europe’s alternative music landscape.

The single is available on digital music platforms, offering listeners another introduction to the Belgian-Moroccan producer’s evolving musical direction.
