The 2024 El Gouna Film Festival aims to emphasize the importance of storytelling as a tool for social impact.

Casablanca – El Gouna Film Festival 2024 (GFF) is currently underway at the stunning Red Sea resort town of El Gouna in Egypt, with the event set to conclude on November 1.

This year’s festival showcases an impressive array of 71 films from 40 countries, with a notable 44% directed by women.

Embracing the theme “Cinema for Humanity,” GFF highlights the power of film as a medium for storytelling and social impact.

The festival not only showcases cinematic excellence but also fosters collaboration and innovation within the global film industry, creating a vibrant space for dialogue and creativity among filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences alike.

Red carpet with a cause

The festival kicked off with a captivating red carpet event, where renowned personalities made bold statements in their fashion choices.

Hend Sabry turned heads in a stunning silver gown that emphasized her elegance, while Dalia Shawky made a powerful statement in her bold black look, showcasing a fashion-forward aesthetic that combined elegance and edge.

Each of these celebrated actresses reflected the festival’s glamorous atmosphere through their unique styles.

Among the male attendees, Anas Bukhash stood out with a sleek and contemporary look, donning a stylish suit that encapsulated modern sophistication.

Asser Yassin also made a striking impression in an all-black ensemble, which included a tailored suit and matching accessories, exuding confidence and style that resonated with the evening’s glamorous theme.

3eish! short film competition

In a noteworthy collaboration, GFF has partnered with the World Food Programme and Zest Productions to launch the 3eish! short film competition, which aims to spotlight films addressing food security issues in Egypt and beyond.

During the festival, filmmakers and organizers gathered to celebrate this initiative, culminating in the announcement of Mahmoud Assi as the winner, recognized for his compelling storytelling and impactful message surrounding this vital topic.

This competition aligns with GFF’s mission to use cinema as a catalyst for social change, encouraging filmmakers to engage with pressing global challenges.

Supporting emerging talent

The CineGouna Market returns as a vital part of the festival, featuring 22 exhibitors from the Arab and European film sectors.

This marketplace is instrumental in fostering collaboration and co-production opportunities within the region’s film industry.

Additionally, the CineGouna Emerge program has expanded this year, offering young filmmakers mentorship and resources to develop their craft.

This commitment to nurturing new talent reflects GFF’s dedication to fostering the next generation of storytellers.

Keeping it up with GFF

As the festival progresses, attendees can look forward to a series of engaging panel discussions and workshops that explore various aspects of filmmaking, from innovation in storytelling to production trends.

The grand finale, scheduled for November 1, will honor outstanding contributions to cinema over the week, recognizing both established and emerging talents.
