With 70 films from 32 countries, this international festival turns Marrakech into a cinematic crossroads of powerful storytelling and cultural exchange.

Casablanca – The Marrakech International Film Festival (MIFF), which will be back later this month, is not just another festival – it’s an international celebration of storytelling that brings together diverse voices, cultures, and cinematic visions.

From November 29 to December 7, MIFF will transform Marrakech into a global movie hub, showcasing 70 films from 32 countries across multiple categories.

Whether you’re a die-hard film fan or just curious about what’s trending, MIFF 2024 promises powerful narratives, bold themes, and cinematic experiences that connect people from all walks of life.

Fresh voices, big stories

At MIFF 2024, the Official Competition is where fresh talent shines.

With 14 groundbreaking first and second films, this category dives into everything from heartfelt documentaries to edgy sci-fi.

Moroccan director Saïd Hamich Benlarbi will bring “Across the Sea,” a story of love and identity, while Hind Meddeb’s “Sudan, Remember Us” captures the heart and resilience of Sudanese youth.

From Ukraine’s political turmoil in “Under the Volcano” to Mongolia’s climate struggles in “The Wolves Always Come at Night,” each film in this lineup has a voice and a vision you won’t forget.

What to watch at MIFF

If there’s a section at MIFF that screams “don’t miss this,” it’s the Gala Screenings.

These films are the headliners, bringing some of the year’s most talked-about premieres.

Expect an emotional ride with “I’m Still Here,” a Brazilian family drama from Walter Salles, or dive into Morocco’s vibrant culture with “Everybody Loves Touda,” directed by Nabil Ayouch.

David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds” rounds things out with a sci-fi twist.

Each Gala Screening is set to make waves and offer audiences a memorable, boundary-pushing cinema experience.

Iconic Directors & Rising Stars

Special Screenings at MIFF 2024 bring together iconic names and bold new talent.

From Andrea Arnold’s intense drama “Bird to the biopic Fanon,” which honors revolutionary thinker Frantz Fanon, these films are more than just stories – they’re statements.

And for a unique twist, the festival is also featuring a restored version of “The Camp at Thiaroye,” bringing historical context to today’s conversations.

This lineup is packed with films that are all about reflecting, questioning, and challenging the status quo.

Homegrown talent goes global

Moroccan cinema will take center stage this year, especially in the Moroccan Panorama section.

From “Nocturnal Sonata” by Abdeslam Kelaï to “Since I Was Born” by Jawad Rhalib, these films showcase Morocco’s storytelling talent, capturing the pulse of local life with a universal appeal.

The Moroccan Panorama is about sharing stories that resonate beyond borders, highlighting the perspectives and creativity of Moroccan filmmakers on the world stage.

Cinema for young audiences

MIFF 2024 isn’t just for adults – it’s also bringing the magic of cinema to younger audiences with its Cinema for Young Audiences & Families section.

These films are designed to entertain, inspire, and engage viewers of all ages, making it the perfect lineup for family movie days.

With kid-friendly selections that range from fun animated features to heartwarming adventures, MIFF is setting the stage for the next generation of film lovers.

Honoring cinema’s trailblazers

One of MIFF’s beloved traditions is its Tribute section, honoring legendary figures who’ve made a lasting impact on the world of film.

This year, MIFF pays homage to visionary director David Cronenberg, Moroccan actress Naïma Elmcherqui, and Hollywood’s own Sean Penn.

These tributes celebrate the power of cinema to influence and inspire, while also shining a spotlight on the pioneers who have paved the way for new voices and stories.

With its powerful stories, global voices, and the captivating backdrop of Marrakech, the 21st Marrakech International Film Festival is a celebration of cinema’s ability to connect, inspire, and transform.

Whether you’re there for the premieres, the red carpet moments, or the stories that make you see the world differently, MIFF 2024 is here to leave a lasting mark.
