The art fair, opening today, brings together artists from around the world with a heavy African representation from Morocco in particular.
Marrakech – Marrakech is hosting once again the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair – a must-see event for art lovers and collectors alike. The event kicks off today, January 30, and will run through February 2, promising visitors an intimate and exclusive chance to connect with artists and galleries on a deeper level.
Around 30 exhibitors from 14 countries will display their work, with a strong focus on African artists, particularly from Morocco.
The fair is taking over two stunning venues: the luxurious La Mamounia hotel in the heart of the city, as well as DaDa, a cultural space near the iconic Koutoubia mosque. Many collectors even stay at La Mamounia during the fair, making it easy to mingle with dealers over coffee or lunch.
The 1-54 is named after the 54 countries in Africa, as the fair is mainly dedicated to put African art and its global diaspora on full display.
1-54 is held three times a year, but the Marrakech edition is the only one held on African soil – the other two take place in New York and London.
Marrakech is considered a strategic meeting point for art enthusiasts from other parts of Africa, as well as Europe, and the Middle East. The event particularly draws a unique crowd of galleries and collectors from French-speaking African nations.
Although the doors are only open for VIP and press for the first days, the public will have full access starting at 11 a.m. local time on February 1.
With its stunning location, growing art scene, and unique vibe, the 1-54 Art Fair in Marrakech is a must-see for anyone passionate about African art.
