Marrakech – South Korean police have summoned a Japanese woman for questioning after she allegedly kissed BTS member Jin without his consent during a free hug event in June 2024.
An official from Seoul’s Songpa police station confirmed that they have requested the woman to appear for questioning over an allegation of sexual harassment.
However, the woman, reportedly in her 50s, has refused to comply. The investigation began after authorities received an online complaint regarding the incident.
According to media reports, South Korean police were able to confirm the woman’s identity with assistance from Japanese authorities. Due to privacy laws, her identity has not been disclosed.
The police have not provided further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
The alleged incident took place a day after Jin, whose real name is Kim Seok-jin, completed his mandatory 18-month military service.
As part of celebrations for his discharge and BTS’ 11-year anniversary, Jin held a free hug event in Seoul, which was attended by around 1,000 fans.
During the event, the woman abruptly kissed him on the cheek. Video footage of the moment went viral, showing Jin looking visibly uncomfortable.
BTS’ management company, HYBE, has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.
Jin is the oldest member of BTS and was the first to enlist for South Korea’s compulsory military service in December 2022.
