A recent report by the financial website Insider Monkey has ranked Morocco as the country with the best weather in the world. The report analyzed climate data from cities around the world to determine the places with ideal weather conditions for living.
Insider Monkey’s rankings were based on the annual Climate Index published by the Global Residence Index. This index scores cities on a scale from 0 to 1 based on factors like temperature, rainfall, sunshine, humidity and frequency of extreme weather events. Cities closer to a score of 1 are considered to have more favorable weather.
According to the Insider Monkey report, the Global Residence Index defines an ideal day in terms of weather as having a temperature that falls within an acceptable range. Specifically, the report notes that the Global Residence Index considers a good day to have a temperature typically between 18 and 30 degrees Celsius. In addition, the report states that the Global Residence Index views a day as good in weather terms if it is sunny with low humidity.
The report considered countries where cities achieved the highest Climate Index scores. Morocco took the top spot thanks to the southern coastal city of Dakhla, which scored 0.96 on the index. In Dakhla, average daytime temperatures range comfortably between 10 and 30 degrees Celsius for around 12 months of the year. The city sees modest rainfall of around 40 days annually and enjoys over 3,100 hours of sunshine each year.
The report also warned that climate change is increasing the risk of extreme weather events such as wildfires, droughts, floods and heat waves. However, countries are taking steps to prepare for and recover from disasters through initiatives by companies in sectors like home improvement, retail and disaster relief organizations.
