Rabat – Renowned Spanish luxury house LOEWE took to Instagram today to honor and recognize the invaluable contributions of Moroccan artisans.

The post shed light on LOEWE’s collaboration with Moroccan artisans in creating their signature basket bags, crafted using raffia and iraca palm leaves.

“Our basket bags are made using raffia and iraca palm leaves that have been cultivated and handwoven by artisans in Morocco, Madagascar, and Colombia, then hand-finished in our Spanish atelier,” the post reads.

The post featured the brand’s signature basket bags, as well as showcased Moroccan zellige tilework and the iconic “hadda” knife that is found in every Moroccan house.

LOEWE pledged to give back to the communities that contribute to the creation of its exquisite pieces.

“For every basket bag sold, LOEWE will make a donation to the local communities who weave them,” the brand said.

The contributions aim to make a meaningful impact, ranging from providing university scholarships in Colombia to establishing craft training schools in Madagascar.

With its tribute to the Moroccan artisans coming less than a year after last September’s devastating earthquake in central Morocco, LOEWE also pledged to offer a portion of the proceeds from the sale of its bag as humanitarian aid to the affected communities.

Founded in 1846 in Madrid, Spain, the brand specializes in high-end leather goods, ready-to-wear fashion, and accessories.

Moroccan artisans are known for their exceptional craftsmanship and centuries-old traditions, which have been integral to the cultural landscape of the region.

Their artistry covers a wide range of disciplines, including woodworking, metalwork, ceramics, textiles, and leather craftsmanship.

In addition, Moroccan artisans are known for their mastery of leatherwork, as they produce exquisite handcrafted goods such as bags, shoes, and traditional Moroccan slippers.
