Rabat – MrBeast, the world’s most popular YouTuber, and Amazon’s production company Prime Video have been slapped with a lawsuit alleging abuse on the set of “ Beast Games,” his upcoming competition reality TV show.
Five unnamed contestants on the show filed the lawsuit on Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming they endured unfair conditions, sexual harassment, and “chronic mistreatment.”
MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, announced the competition in March. The contest has been produced by his production company, MrB004, alongside Amazon, which described the series as the “biggest live reality show in history.” Over 1,000 contestants compete for the jackpot of MAD 50 million ($5 million).
The complaint alleges that the contestant felt let down after the production failed to provide sufficient catering to contestants, did not enlist enough medical help and “forced them not to sleep…to participate in games that unreasonably risked physical and mental injury.”
Lawyers for the five claimants alleged that Donaldson, 26, and Amazon failed to pay minimum wages, promoted sexism and “laid the groundwork for collective sexual harassment.” In a statement, the claimants’ lawyers said “several contestants” suffered “physical and mental complications” and some were taken to hospital.
“While participants knew upon signing the contract at the production’s inception that they were facing a potentially long and challenging competition, they allege getting a lot more than they bargained for,” read the statement.
The release date for Beast Games has not been announced. Donaldson, who rose to online fame with his stunts and over-the-top videos giving away large sums of money, has not responded to the allegations.
