Rabat – On October 9, Def Leppard will be honoured by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce with a star on the iconic Walk of Fame, following other famous rock bands like The Rolling Stones, Queen, KISS, and many others. With 100 million worldwide sales and two albums that went Diamond in the US, the time has finally come for the rock band to get their well-deserved star.
The event will be exclusively broadcasted live on at www.walkoffame.com
As hard rock from the ’80s is still underrated compared to pop or hip-hop, Def Leppard’s milestone in the 48th year of their career testifies not only to their longevity as a band but also rock as a genre, as it stands out against other popular music genres.
“Honored to share that we will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on October 9, courtesy of The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.” the Def Leppards said in a group statement through a Facebook post, adding, “None of this would be possible without YOU. Thank you.”
Formed in 1977 in Sheffield, England, Def Leppard is a five-member rock band consisting of Joe Elliott – lead vocals, Rick Savage, bass guitar and backing vocals, Rick Allen, drums (famously continued with one arm after a 1984 accident), Phil Collen , guitar and backing vocals, and Steve Clark, guitar and backing vocals, who unfortunately passed away in 1991 and was later replaced by Vivian Campbell.
The beginning of the 80s also marked the beginning of glam metal and over produced heavy metal.
After popular musicians like Mötley Crüe, and Bon Jovi, Bands like Def Leppards also transitioned from heavy metal to a more “bluesy English hard rock” as lead vocalist Joe Elliot defined the genre of their song “High ‘n’ Dry.”
The song’s release in 1981 is what transitioned Def Leppard’s music from classic heavy metal to sound more like arena rock music as we know it today.
From Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN), the first rock band to get a star on the Walk of Fame back in 1978, to Def Leppard receiving their own this Thursday, rock continues to thrive as a music genre after existing for more than half a century.
