Marrakech – The 31st edition of the International Video Art Festival (FIAV) kicked off Monday evening at the Studio des Arts Vivants in Casablanca.
Organized by the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences (FLSH) Ben M’sik, part of Hassan II University, this year’s festival carries the theme “Disembodied Identities.”
The opening night featured the presentation of “AI Dream,” a creation by French artist Moulla. Blending magic and digital arts, the performance offered an immersive experience where illusion and technology intertwine, challenging perceptions of reality.
Speaking at the event, Leila Maziane, Dean of FLSH Ben M’sik, emphasized that this edition aims to foster cultural engagement among students while exposing them to diverse contemporary artistic creations.
She noted that the theme of “Disembodied Identities” reflects the nuances of a vibrant, modern metropolis like Casablanca, highlighting how art helps explore both tangible and intangible, or even virtual, identities.
Maziane also highlighted that the festival’s parallel activities, including an international conference, provide a significant platform to examine these complex identities from fresh perspectives.
Organized in partnership with the French Institute in Morocco and the French Embassy, the festival seeks to showcase contemporary digital arts as a bridge between cultures, while encouraging youth creativity in the fields of art, science, and technology.
This year’s edition features a diverse program, bringing together artists and researchers from Morocco, France, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Niger, Switzerland, and Tunisia.
Special attention is given to French digital creations, reflecting the vitality of the French scene and strengthening Moroccan-French cultural cooperation.
The program also includes workshops and masterclasses led by renowned artists and scholars, alongside an international conference in collaboration with Paris 8 University and Savoie Mont-Blanc University.
Researchers from over eight countries are set to discuss the theme of “Disembodied Identities” through artistic, literary, and technological approaches.
Founded in 1993, the International Video Art Festival is a multidisciplinary platform dedicated to contemporary and digital creation.
For over three decades, it has showcased innovative works while serving as a key space for creation, exchange, and training for Moroccan youth.
