Marrakech – The 22nd edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival is set to celebrate Arab cinema in all its depth and diversity, with Palestinian and Egyptian filmmakers taking the spotlight through powerful stories that blend emotion, history, and artistry.

From November 28 to December 6, the festival will showcase 82 films from 31 countries, reaffirming Marrakech’s place as one of the most influential cinematic gatherings in the region.

Among this year’s highlights is “Palestine 36,” a historical melodrama by acclaimed director Annemarie Jacir. The film revisits a pivotal moment in the Palestinian struggle, brought to life by a stellar cast of renowned Arab actors.

Through its intimate storytelling and profound sense of collective memory, “Palestine 36” captures both the resilience and the emotional complexity of a people defined by endurance.

Palestine’s strong cinematic presence continues with “What’s Left of You” by Cherien Dabis, screening in the Horizons competition.

First praised at Sundance, the film tells the story of a mother whose teenage son becomes involved in a protest in the West Bank.

With quiet power, Dabis explores themes of love, loss, and the unyielding spirit of those living amid conflict.

Adding to the festival’s star power, Marrakech will also host the world premiere of “El Sett” (“The Lady”), starring Mona Zaki as the legendary Umm Kulthum.

Directed by Marwan Hamed and written by Ahmed Mourad, the film blends drama and music to revisit the life of the Arab world’s most iconic singer, celebrating her unmatched voice and lasting cultural impact.
