Marrakech — Moroccan visual artist Ghizlane Agzenaï has unveiled “Dimension 2112: The Station,” a new immersive solo exhibition presented at Galerie 38 in Marrakech as part of the city’s program surrounding the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair.
Speaking to Morocco World News during the opening, Agzenaï described the project as an emotionally driven, immersive experience designed to transmit optimism and positive energy.
She explained that Dimension 2112 is an imagined universe created to move beyond visual impact and establish a genuine emotional connection with visitors.
“The exhibition carries a message of hope and empowerment,” Agzenaï said, adding that the work encourages audiences to reconnect with optimism and envision new possibilities through color, light, and abstraction.
A new chapter in retrofuturistic saga
“Dimension 2112: The Station” follows the first chapter of Agzenaï’s ongoing artistic saga, “Dimension 2112: Genesis,” launched in 2023.
In this new installment, the artist expands her retrofuturistic universe into what she describes as a vibrant parallel world, one where color, geometry, and light act as engines of an active utopia.
The title Dimension 2112 references the mirrored date of December 21, the artist’s birthday, but the project goes beyond personal symbolism.
It proposes a joyful visual ecosystem rooted in optimism and the idea of expanding energy.
Agzenaï’s signature totems, recurring sculptural and pictorial forms, appear throughout the exhibition as luminous markers, points of orientation, and symbolic guides that invite viewers to imagine a reality untethered from conventional time and space.
An immersive sensory environment
With The Station, Galerie 38 is transformed into a threshold. a point of passage between the real world and the imagined Dimension 2112.
From the entrance, visitors encounter an immersive installation inspired by spatial architecture, setting the tone for a fully sensory experience.
Paintings, sculptural volumes, light installations, video elements, and art furniture come together to create an environment conceived as a docking station toward an elsewhere.
The exhibition deliberately blurs the boundaries between painting, sculpture, design, and digital expression, reflecting Agzenaï’s commitment to a transversal artistic practice.
This chapter further confirms her pursuit of a universal visual language grounded in geometric abstraction and vital energy, an art form positioned as a synonym for movement, openness, and hope.
Totems of energy and benevolence
Agzenaï defines her totems as “objects that embody a benevolent spirit.”
Radiating positive energy, luminous vibrations, and an exuberance that is both protective and expressive, the totems are designed to bring serenity and strength to the spaces they inhabit, indoors and outdoors alike.
While they foster connection and unity, the works also invite introspection and contemplation.
Installed in galleries, museums, and public spaces around the world, they are intended to spark joy, vitality, and a sense of shared optimism.
An international artistic trajectory
Known for her bold geometric lines and vibrant color palettes, Agzenaï has collaborated with major international institutions and brands.
Luxury house Guerlain has drawn on her universe for personalized design elements and packaging for its Shades of Oud perfume collection, as well as for interior decoration and window scenography in boutiques worldwide.
In 2018, she transformed the façade of the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat during the Jidar street art festival.
Her work has since appeared in cities including Vienna, Casablanca, Paris, and across Spain, where she has explored new 3D artistic forms.
Selected by artist Felipe Pantone to inaugurate his residency program, Agzenaï presented a modular totem highlighting the breadth of her creative approach.
She has also worked in non-traditional spaces, from public installations to corporate headquarters such as Adidas in Germany, and has participated in numerous international exhibitions and art fairs.
In 2022, she was invited to work in the studio of optical art pioneer Victor Vasarely for the exhibition “Vasarely Legacy,” marking another significant milestone in her career.
With Dimension 2112: The Station, Ghizlane Agzenaï continues to position her work within a global conversation on contemporary African art, offering a vision that is luminous, immersive, and resolutely hopeful.
