Fez — The Korean Embassy in Morocco has announced the 2026 K-pop World Festival in Morocco, opening the door for Moroccan fans to perform, compete, and possibly advance to the international festival in Changwon, South Korea.

According to the embassy’s Instagram post, this year’s Moroccan competition will feature two categories: vocal and dance. After a preliminary video screening, four finalists from each category will be selected to perform in the final round in Rabat.

The final competition is scheduled for July 10 in the Moroccan capital. The deadline for preliminary video submissions is June 25 at midnight, while finalists are expected to be announced on June 29 at 5 p.m.

A stage for Moroccan K-pop fans

The competition is open to Moroccans who love K-pop, whether they apply individually or as part of a group. Participants can enter only one category, either vocal or dance.

Applicants must submit two videos by email (maroc_kculture@mofa.go.kr). The first is an introduction video, limited to one minute, in which participants introduce themselves or their team and explain their motivation for joining the contest.

The second video must show the actual K-pop performance. Vocal or dance performances should last between three and five minutes, and the song and choreography must be the same as those intended for the final stage.

The embassy also set strict video guidelines. Submissions must be horizontal, recorded in one take, and show all participants clearly. Medleys are not allowed, and songs made entirely of non-Korean lyrics are not eligible.

Why the contest is gaining attention

The announcement has quickly caught attention because it speaks directly to Morocco’s growing K-pop community.

In recent years, Korean pop culture has moved from niche fan circles into wider youth culture, with dance crews, fan accounts, and local events helping build momentum.

The 2026 contest also gives Moroccan fans something more concrete than online fandom. It offers a public stage, a competitive format, and a possible path to Korea. That combination makes the event feel bigger than a local talent show.

The K-pop World Festival is widely organized through regional preliminary rounds around the world, with selected performers later considered for the main event in Korea.

The Korean Cultural Centre UK describes its own national round as a preliminary heat connected to the wider K-pop World Festival in Korea.

Morocco has already hosted previous editions of the event. The 2025 K-pop World Festival in Morocco took place at the Mohammed V Theater in Rabat and was open to Moroccan fans in dance and vocal categories, according to public event listings.

A cultural bridge through performance

The Moroccan announcement also reflects South Korea’s wider cultural diplomacy strategy, using music, language, food, and performance to connect with young audiences abroad.

For many Moroccan fans, K-pop is not only about listening to music. It is also about learning choreography, following Korean language and culture, and building communities around shared passion.

That is what makes the 2026 K-pop World Festival in Morocco stand out. It turns fandom into participation, giving young Moroccans the chance to move from watching their favorite idols online to performing on a real stage.

As Korean culture continues to expand its reach in Morocco, the festival shows how music can create unexpected bridges between Rabat and Seoul, while giving Moroccan talent a platform beyond borders.
