Rabat – Moroccan filmmaker Sonia Terrab is returning with “Toilettes de filles” (Girls’ Toilets), a new web series that transforms one of the most private social spaces into the backdrop for conversations about friendship, vulnerability, and womanhood.
Known for amplifying Moroccan women’s voices through her documentary work, Terrab’s latest project shifts toward scripted storytelling while staying rooted in themes that have defined much of her career.
Set almost entirely inside women’s restrooms, the series captures the candid exchanges that often unfold away from public view, where strangers become confidantes, friends offer advice, and deeply personal conversations emerge unexpectedly.
Rather than relying on dramatic plot twists, the web series draws its strength from everyday interactions, using humor alongside emotional moments to explore identity, relationships, and the social expectations placed on women.
The fictional format allows Terrab to revisit themes that have long shaped her work while experimenting with a new style of storytelling.
The cast includes Sofia Belkamel, Aouatefe Lahmani, and Rita Berrada, with a special appearance by Rita Kassid, who also performs the soundtrack, “Vis une fête,” which accompanies the series.
The series is being released through a collaboration between Liik and French production company FabLabChannel.
The partnership aligns with FabLabChannel’s focus on digital-first productions and socially driven storytelling, particularly projects centered on youth, gender, and contemporary cultural issues.
Filming took place with the support of Tapero Restaurant, which hosted the production, while artist Mahi Binebine also welcomed the team during the shoot.
The series transforms an ordinary setting into a space where humor, intimacy, and honest conversation come together, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary Moroccan womanhood.
