Rabat – Spotify recently announced that, starting this month, AI-generated artists will receive a new “AI Persona” label and will be excluded from personalized recommendations on the platform.
This measure builds on earlier efforts to regulate AI-generated content on Spotify. The new label will make it easier for both creators and listeners to identify profiles featuring AI-generated artists.
The platform will not rely solely on voluntary disclosures. Spotify will also continuously review artist profiles, giving accounts identified with the “AI Persona” label the opportunity to self-disclose their use of AI or appeal the designation.
According to their press release, this badge is set to also display if the artist themselves shared transparently that they are AI-generated, or that Spotify is the one that reviewed the profile and tagged it as “AI Persona“.
These measures come in response to calls from workers across the recorded music industry for clearer guidelines that strengthen transparency, establish eligibility standards, and protect human creativity.
Spotify said in a statement, “Although artists use AI across a broad spectrum of creative applications, whether a profile represents an actual human is an area where Spotify can help provide greater clarity.”
Many users had criticized Spotify for what they saw as a slow response to AI-generated music, especially compared with other major streaming platforms such as Deezer and TIDAL.
Criticism intensified after Spotify CEO Alex Norström said that “controlled” AI products offer a better alternative to the unregulated AI “slop” already spreading across the internet.
