Fez — Morocco’s creative industries are getting a new platform for measuring influence and recognizing design, with the first “Creative & Design Summit” scheduled for October 16 to 18 in Marrakech.
Organized by Les Impériales (The Imperials), the event will introduce two major initiatives: the “Creative Index” and the “Morocco Design Awards,” according to the summit’s official program.
The Creative Index is intended to measure the performance of players across Morocco’s creative sector and identify its most influential actors.
According to “Les Impériales,” the index will draw on seven years of results from its “Les Étoiles” (The Stars) awards between 2019 and 2026. It will also consider recognition at national and international competitions, including Cannes Lions, Dubai Lynx, and the Tilila Awards, alongside an inclusion criterion.
The first results will be revealed during the summit’s opening evening on October 16.
New awards for Moroccan design
The summit will also introduce the “Morocco Design Awards,” created to recognize contemporary Moroccan design across several disciplines.
The official awards page presents the initiative as a platform for highlighting talent and innovative projects while strengthening Morocco’s visibility on the international creative scene.
A gala titled “The Design Night” will host the awards ceremony on October 17.
The wider summit will also include “The Brand Lab,” a day centered on branding, creativity, design, and the relationship between brands and their audiences.
The initiative arrives as Moroccan designers continue to increase their presence at international fairs and exhibitions. Designer Hicham Lahlou, for example, has regularly used international platforms to connect Moroccan craftsmanship with contemporary industrial design. Morocco World News previously covered his handmade Moroccan collections at Milan’s Salone del Mobile.
The Creative Index introduces a different dimension to that growing ecosystem by attempting to quantify creative performance rather than focusing exclusively on individual exhibitions or achievements.
For Morocco’s design sector, the summit could provide a new reference point for understanding the people, agencies, brands, and projects shaping the country’s contemporary creative identity.
