Casablanca – The world of Narnia is getting ready to welcome us back, as the first trailer for “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew” has finally arrived. For anyone who grew up with talking animals, enchanted lands, and adventures beyond the ordinary, this feels like a long-awaited return to a familiar world.
It has been 16 years since audiences last visited Narnia on the big screen. The original film series began with “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” in 2005, followed by “Prince Caspian” in 2008 and “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” in 2010.
Now, Netflix is bringing the fantasy world back with a new adaptation directed by Greta Gerwig, known for “Barbie” and “Little Women.”
A story that takes us back to the beginning
Rather than returning to the familiar events of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” the new film draws from C. S. Lewis’s 1955 novel The Magician’s Nephew. The story takes us back to the creation of Narnia, long before the Pevensie children discover the magical wardrobe.
The adventure follows Digory and Polly, two children who discover a way to travel between different worlds. Their journey leads them to witness Narnia’s creation by Aslan, the majestic lion at the heart of Lewis’s fantasy series. The story also introduces Jadis, the character who later becomes the White Witch.
What the trailer reveals
The first teaser offers a glimpse of the strange worlds and magical encounters waiting for viewers. Daniel Craig appears as Andrew Ketterley, the magician whose mysterious rings help transport the children to distant realms. Emma Mackey plays Jadis, while Meryl Streep lends her voice to Aslan.
The trailer also features Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven, giving the first look an epic, almost otherworldly feel. It hints at the film’s scale without revealing too much of the adventure, leaving plenty for audiences to discover when the full story arrives.
When can you watch it?
“Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew” will arrive in IMAX and theaters worldwide on February 12, 2027, with IMAX-only sneak previews beginning February 10. Netflix subscribers will be able to stream the film starting April 2, 2027.
For longtime fans, the return offers a chance to revisit the wonder that made Narnia such a beloved fantasy world. For a new generation, it could be the beginning of an entirely new adventure. And this time, we get to see how the magic began.
