Marrakech – Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, has given the green light for the construction of a new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International airport, according to a post on X (formerly Twitter) that he shared on Sunday.
The terminal, with an estimated cost of 128 billion AED ($34.85 billion), marks a bold step forward in Dubai’s ongoing commitment to cement its status as a global aviation powerhouse.
Sheikh Mohammed has revealed plans for the Al Maktoum International Airport to emerge as the world’s largest, holding an unprecedented capacity of up to 260 million passengers.
This ambitious endeavor will see the airport dwarfing Dubai International Airport by fivefold in size.
Moreover, Sheikh Mohammed declared the intention to consolidate all airport operations in Dubai to Al Maktoum in the coming years.
The forthcoming airport will boast a staggering 400 terminal gates and five expansive runways, he said.
Emirates chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al-Maktoum announced that the airport is slated to become the primary hub for Emirates, its budget counterpart Flydubai, and all associated airlines facilitating global connectivity to and from Dubai.
According to the Dubai Media Office, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, remarked that the relocation “further solidifies Dubai’s position as a leading aviation hub on the world stage.”
