Marrakech – LinkedIn is venturing into the realm of gaming, the website TechCrunch reported on Saturday.
Leveraging the popularity of puzzle-based games like Wordle, which have captivated millions, the professional networking platform seeks to introduce a new gaming experience.
Among the early projects are games such as “Queens,” “Inference,” and “Crossclimb,” added the report, noting that app researchers have recently uncovered code hinting at LinkedIn’’s ongoing developments.
Writing on X, formerly Twitter, Nima Owji, a blogger and app researcher, revealed that LinkedIn seems to be exploring a concept wherein player scores are categorized by workplaces, potentially leading to companies being ranked based on these scores.
The blogger expressed his excitement, stating: “Pretty cool and fun, in my opinion.”
TechCrunch’s report quoted a spokesperson for LinkedIn as confirming the company’s engagement in gaming, clarifying that a launch date has not been determined yet.
“We’re playing with adding puzzle-based games within the LinkedIn experience to unlock a bit of fun, deepen relationships, and hopefully spark the opportunity for conversations,” the spokesperson told TechCrunch.
But the spokesperson declined to comment on whether or how Microsoft is involved in the gaming project at LinkedIn.
The platform’s parent company, Microsoft, holds a dominant position in the gaming industry.
Its gaming division, which includes Xbox, Activision Blizzard, and ZeniMax, generated $7.1 billion in revenues last quarter, surpassing Windows revenues for the first time.
With over 1 billion users, LinkedIn has established itself primarily as a platform for individuals to network and gain professional knowledge, as well as for recruiting purposes.
