Marrakech – Rabat witnessed a special cultural evening yesterday with the screening of El Sett, a film tracing the life and legacy of the legendary Arab icon Umm Kulthum.
The event was held at the Cinémathèque Marocaine and organized by the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Morocco, in collaboration with the Moroccan Center of Cinematography and UVF Maroc.
The screening brought together diplomats, cultural figures, and cinema professionals, reaffirming the role of film as a shared cultural language between Egypt and Morocco.
El Sett offers an intimate cinematic portrait of Umm Kulthum, revisiting her personal journey alongside her artistic impact, which continues to resonate across generations in the Arab world and beyond.
Speaking on the occasion, Egypt’s Ambassador to Morocco, Ahmed Abdel-Latif, described the event as “a wonderful evening in Rabat with a special screening of the movie El Sett on the life of the great star Umm Kulthum.”
He highlighted the film’s unique connection to the kingdom. The film “was presented worldwide for the first time at the Marrakech International Film Festival,” giving it a special link with Morocco, he noted.
Ambassador Abdel-Latif expressed his satisfaction at presenting the film again in Rabat in cooperation with Moroccan cultural institutions, stressing the importance of strengthening artistic exchange.
He emphasized that cinema and culture play a key role in deepening the strong historical ties between Egypt and Morocco, and voiced hope for further collaboration through future film and cultural initiatives.
