Marrakech – Actress Bridgit Mendler’s latest endeavor involves reaching not just for stars, but also for satellites in the ever-expanding realm of innovation.
After her tenure at the new Space Bureau for the Federal Communication Commission, where her passion for space law ignited, Bridgit Mendler is embarking on a new frontier in her career.
On Monday, the former Disney Channel star, announced on X, formerly Twitter, that she will serve as the CEO of a new tech startup; Northwood Space.
“We are designing shared ground infrastructure from first principles to expand access to space,” highlighted Mendler in her tweet.
Mendler discussed this new career step in an interview with CNBC, where she articulated that her vision for this venture is to create a “data highway” bridging Earth and space.
“Space is getting easier along so many different dimensions but still the actual exercise of sending data to and from space is difficult,” Mendler told the media outlet. “You have difficulty finding an access point for contacting your satellite.”
Northwood Space is drawing the attention of prominent venture investors, having secured approximately $6 million in initial funding.
Among its backers are notable firms such as Founders Fund and Also Capital.
Mendler is spearheading the California-based startup alongside two co-founders; her husband, Griffin Cleverly, who serves as the startup’s Chief Technology Officer, and Shaurya Luthra, who holds the position of Head of Software.
Fans expressed their excitement and support for Mendler’s new venture, leaving comments on her tweeted announcement such as, “Huge milestone, congrats!” and “You’re absolutely brilliant and I’m excited to follow your journey! Congratulations.”
In a humorous turn of events, a commentator said, “I’ll always love you but just know when you’re back from space the pop industry needs some saving,” underscoring the sentiment that the music scene eagerly awaits talents like hers to return.
In a surprising twist, Mendler surprised fans with a follow-up tweet revealing that she is a mom to a 4-year-old boy.
“Started fostering in 2021 and adopted near Christmas of 2022. I’m so lucky, being a parent is the biggest gift and most defining experience there is,” tweeted the new CEO.
On the Northwood Space website, the team mentions that their vision started with the simple question; “What would the future of satellite backhaul look like if we built it from the ground up?”
From stars in Hollywood to stars in the universe, one thing is for certain; Mendler’s career is looking up.
