Casablanca – The Festival du Livre Africain de Marrakech (FLAM) will return for its fourth edition from April 23-25, bringing together prominent voices from across Africa.

Just days before the opening of the Rabat International Book Fair (SIEL), Marrakech will set the tone with three days dedicated to African literature, debate, and imagination. This will offer an alternative for readers who cannot make it to the capital.

Under the theme “Imagining Other Possibilities,” this year’s edition places imagination at the center of its program, exploring how literature, poetry, and thought can challenge the present and envision new futures.

As part of the event, writers and intellectuals from francophone, arabophone, and anglophone backgrounds are expected to take part in conversations, readings, and public discussions.

This year’s edition will feature major literary figures, including Haitian writer Yanick Lahens, who will deliver the opening lecture, and Martinican author Patrick Chamoiseau, Prix Goncourt laureate.

Established and emerging authors from across Africa will also take part in panels, readings, and cross-generational conversations.

The festival will be anchored at Les Étoiles de Jamaâ el-Fna in the heart of the medina, while extending its activities to universities, cultural institutions, and public venues across Marrakech and Benguerir, reinforcing its educational and outreach dimension.

Marrakech as a growing hub for African and diasporic literature

Since its creation, FLAM has positioned itself as a pan-African literary platform, fostering dialogue between the continent and its diasporas.

With each edition, the event continues to expand its scope, affirming Marrakech as a growing hub for African and diasporic literature.

Beyond its literary program, FLAM also seeks to create a space of encounter and transmission, where generations, languages, and cultural experiences intersect.

By opening its doors to students, young readers, and diverse audiences, the festival reinforces its commitment to making literature accessible and relevant in a rapidly changing world.

Through dialogue, reflection, and shared stories, FLAM aims to reaffirm the power of books not only as mirrors of society, but as catalysts for collective imagination and meaningful change.
