Lugano – Marrakech ranked 7th in the Tripadvisor “Travelers’ Choice Awards – Best of the Best Destinations,” according to the travel platform’s latest list. One of Morocco’s most visited cities, Marrakech is known for its historic medina, traditional riads, and cultural landmarks, including Jemaa El-Fna Square.
The success marks a rank higher from last year, when Marrakech was placed 8th on Tripadvisor’s same ranking. The Red City is now within the top 10 worldwide for a second consecutive year.
The ranking is based on the volume and quality of traveler reviews submitted over a 12-month period. Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards rely on user-generated feedback rather than editorial selection, highlighting destinations that consistently receive strong reviews from travelers worldwide.
Alongside Marrakech, the Souss Massa surf haven of Taghazout was included in the platform’s top trending destinations for 2026 category, coming in at 13th place. The coastal town north of Agadir has gained increased visibility in recent years, driven by its growing water sports culture, expanding wellness tourism sector, and relaxed coastal environment.
A strong momentum for the Red City
The strong showing in Tripadvisor’s rankings comes amid historically strong performance in Morocco’s tourism sector. In 2025, the industry generated a record MAD 138 billion ($15 billion) in foreign revenues, representing a 21% increase compared with 2024.
Morocco also welcomed nearly 20 million tourists in 2025, marking a 14% increase from the previous year. The figures underscore sustained growth in international demand for Moroccan destinations.
At the national level, Morocco also climbed to 13th place globally in the United Nations Tourism rankings late last year, reflecting continued growth in visitor arrivals and tourism revenues.
As travel planning for 2026 continues, Morocco’s performance in both global destination rankings and tourism revenues proves the country’s expanding role in the international travel market.
