Fez — Moroccan singer-songwriter Amina Bensouda will unveil her new live project, “Traversées,” on April 7 at 8:30 p.m. at “Studio des Arts Vivants” (Living Arts Studio) in Casablanca, presenting a concert designed as an intimate journey that gradually expands into a collective musical experience.
Conceived, written, composed, and produced by Bensouda, the show marks a significant step in her artistic path, emphasizing an independent approach and a personal writing style shaped by multiple influences.
A two-movement concert
“Traversées” unfolds in two parts. The first is stripped back and direct, with Bensouda alone on stage with her guitar, placing voice and text at the center. In interviews surrounding the project, she has described the instrument as a steady stage companion, one that helps her keep the performance grounded in presence and intimacy.
The second movement widens the sound and the stage. Bensouda is joined by musicians Mourad Belouadi, Fayçal Boudli, Héctor Varela González, and Ismail El Iraki, shifting the concert from personal narrative to a more expansive, shared energy.
The arrangements draw from jazz, folk, pop, rock, and traditional rhythms, giving the show a multi-genre arc that mirrors its emotional progression.
A multilingual writing shaped by Morocco and France
Born in Rabat and trained at “Cours Florent” in Paris, Bensouda’s work reflects a bilingual and bicultural formation, shaped by life between Morocco and France.
Her songwriting moves naturally between French, English, and Arabic, a choice that reinforces the project’s central idea of crossing, whether through language, memory, or geography.
Bensouda previously released her first EP, “Confidences,” in 2020, and has since performed in a range of live contexts, including international stages such as Dubai. She has also built visibility through opening slots for Moroccan rock band “Hoba Hoba Spirit” and French comedian Karim Duval, experiences that helped sharpen her live presence and relationship with audiences.
A recent residency at “Berklee College of Music” also fed into the development of “Traversées,” reinforcing its musical ambition and performance design.
At the heart of “Traversées” is an introspective exploration of life’s tensions and balances, including fragility and strength, solitude and connection.
The concert’s narrative touches on grief, love, and the pursuit of freedom, themes that Bensouda approaches through close, personal writing rather than spectacle.
