Fez — Marrakech will host the University Theater Festival from April 7 to 9, under the theme “University theater: a laboratory of expression and the construction of consciousness.”
Organized by the University of Cadi Ayyad, the initiative aims to give students a space to perform, experiment, and reflect on the role of theatre in shaping awareness and values inside academic life.
A campus stage for student voices
Organizers describe the festival as part of a broader push to strengthen cultural and artistic activities within the university environment.
Beyond showcasing student productions, the event positions theatre as a tool for personal development, creative confidence, and sharper critical thinking.
The program also reflects a wider ambition to make the campus more open to different forms of artistic expression, building bridges between academic learning and cultural practice.
For many students, university theater is the first place to test ideas publicly, work as an ensemble, and translate social questions into performance.
Workshops, conferences, and tributes
Alongside performances, the festival will feature training workshops led by specialists and artists, covering areas such as improvisation, autobiographical theatre, dramaturgy, and stage performance.
Conferences are also planned to expand discussion on how university theatre can contribute to building consciousness and promoting human values.
The event will additionally pay tribute to national artistic and media figures in recognition of their contributions to Morocco’s cultural landscape.
