Casablanca – Less than a month to go until “Nostalgia Lovers Festival” returns for its third edition, and the excitement is already in the air. Today’s press conference at Casablanca’s Vélodrome Parc turned up the anticipation even more, with fresh details setting the tone for what’s coming next.

The first noticeable change is the timing. While the past two editions took place in early July, this year’s festival will arrive earlier, on June 18, 19, and 20.

According to organizers, the shift was a deliberate choice. With several festivals happening in July, moving earlier helps avoid overlap while also placing Nostalgia Lovers in a more favorable window at the start of summer.

It also comes at a moment that feels just right. Right after the baccalaureate period, when things start to slow down and people are ready to unwind, the festival positions itself as a natural escape, a way to ease into the summer mood.

Beyond timing, this edition brings a full rethink of the festival layout and experience. The configuration has been completely redesigned, with improvements aimed at making movement across the site smoother and the overall experience more fluid and immersive.

MWN Lifestyle magazine was on the ground, taking the opportunity to get a closer look at the festival’s vision.

Gen Z and the nostalgia wave

With two editions behind it, Nostalgia Lovers Festival has grown into a space where sounds from the 70s and 80s meet the energy of the 90s and early 2000s. But with such a wide throwback spectrum, the question naturally arises: who is the festival really speaking to?

Speaking to MWN Lifestyle magazine, organizers pointed to a growing Gen Z presence, driven largely by social media buzz around 80s music and the festival’s previous editions.

While they note that around 80 percent of the audience still comes from older generations, Gen Z attendance is steadily increasing, supported by sales data from past years.

Rather than seeing it as a contrast, they frame it as a convergence. As they explained, Gen Z is growing into this music, with tastes increasingly overlapping across eras.

The current focus stops at the early 2000s, but they hinted that future editions could extend even further into the 2010s and beyond, keeping the concept evolving with younger listeners.

In that sense, nostalgia Lovers festival becomes a shared memory experience, where different ages connect through music they may have grown up with or discovered later.

What about Moroccan nostalgia?

While the festival is built around nostalgia, its musical focus has largely leaned toward international hits, with no presence of Moroccan classics. This choice, however, is not accidental.

Speaking to MWN Lifestyle magazine, organizers explained that apart from names like Nass El Ghiwane, few Moroccan artists from that era align with the festival’s core direction, which is strongly centered on dance-driven music.

Still, they hinted at a possible shift. Reinterpreting iconic Moroccan tracks, they outlined, is being considered for this edition and the next, opening the door to a future moment where local nostalgia could also find its place on stage.

What makes an artist ‘iconic’ here

The selection process behind Nostalgia Lovers Festival comes down to a simple idea: hit songs that last, they told MWN Lifestyle magazine.

Organizers explained that an “iconic” artist is first and foremost someone with one or more tracks that have become part of collective memory, songs that instantly resonate when heard again.

They pointed to names like Gloria Gaynor, whose catalogue includes more than ten hits that continue to speak across generations.

Even when a song is not tied to a personal memory, they noted, it can still trigger immediate recognition and emotion the moment it plays. That, they stressed, is at the core of the lineup.

In short, the festival builds its programming around artists whose music has already proven its staying power and continues to do so.

New on-site experience: World Cup screening

On the second day of the festival, June 19, the schedule will briefly shift to coincide with a major national moment. As Morocco plays its World Cup match, programming will wrap up around 11 p.m, where they will screen the national team’s game on site.

The match will be broadcast for festivalgoers, followed by a collective celebration atmosphere in support of the national team, adding a different kind of energy to the night.

After a lineup that spans decades, evolving experiences, and a festival built on shared memories, it’s your turn now to pick the era, and the outfit that will carry you through it.
