Rabat – Today, Moroccan-Belgian artist Tawsen has officially released “Chokran,” the first full-length album of his career.
Following the success of previous singles such as “Den Den” and “Khallini,” the project marks a significant milestone for the artist, who has built his rise independently under his label SAWT.
Meaning “thank you” in Arabic, Chokran goes beyond gratitude for Tawsen.
The album stands as a deeply personal reflection on the people, experiences, and challenges that have shaped both his life and music.
It is described as an open letter to his loved ones, his critics, his roots, and the cultures that have influenced him along the way.
Born to Moroccan parents and raised between Morocco, Belgium, and Italy, Tawsen’s music has long existed at the crossroads of multiple worlds.
That multicultural identity is central to “Chokran,” where he blends darija, Egyptian Arabic, French, and Amazigh while exploring a broad range of genres.
The album reflects these influences through collaborations and sounds rooted in North African and Arab musical traditions.
Tracks include afro-inspired sounds with Nor, amapiano on Ya Gamali, raï on Nsayni, mahragan with Fares Sokar on Estanna, and gnawa influences on Chokran Bezzaf.
Visually, the album artwork extends the project’s themes of identity and gratitude.
Rather than presenting himself as a solitary figure, Tawsen appears surrounded by female musicians he refers to as his “girls band,” emphasizing the collective energy behind his journey.
Dressed in blue, a color central to the Chokran universe, they symbolize transmission, celebration, and support.
The album’s visual identity also revolves around the peacock, a direct reference to Tawsen’s family name, Taouss, which means peacock in Arabic.
The symbol represents pride, elegance, and self-expression. Blue and gold tones featured throughout the artwork pay homage to the traditional Moroccan “tabsil taouss,” a peacock plate found in homes across Morocco and the diaspora, reimagined here as a modern emblem of heritage and ambition.
To accompany the album’s release, Tawsen has also unveiled the lead single Zid Sawt (“Turn Up the Volume”), produced by 777YM.
The track opens with raï-inspired melodies before shifting into an unexpected sonic direction, setting the tone for the album’s exploration of contrast and experimentation.
The music video, directed by Farid Malki, who previously worked on Den Den and Khallini, expands on the album’s visual storytelling, with Tawsen once again surrounded by his inner circle in a bold statement of confidence and identity.
