Washington – Around 8-10% of global carbon emissions are attributed to the fashion industry every year, making sustainable fashion brands an increasingly attractive choice.

Here are four brands that prioritize sustainable and ethical practices.

Stella McCartney

With its values and goals aligned, Stella McCartney is on a mission to create high-end quality products while minimizing their environmental impact.

McCartney debuted the world’s first cruelty-free, vegan, and plant-based alternative to feathers – FEVVERS – at Paris Fashion Week for the Summer 2026 show.

Other materials used in the brand’s pieces include bio-based materials, repurposed waste, plant-based alternatives, recyclable textile solutions, vegan fungi-based materials, and more.

Vivienne Westwood

Social and environmental impacts are highly considered when producing products at Vivienne Westwood.

This luxury brand focuses on sourcing alternative materials and trialing materials, including recycled options, plant-based alternatives, and deadstock fabrics.

One example of Westwood’s sustainability practices is sourcing cotton from organic, regenerative farms to create products like the Hebo Top, which is made from 100% cotton, as well as the Justine Top, made from 85% cotton.

Gabriela Hearst

Since launching her first womenswear collection in 2015, Gabriela Hearst has placed sustainability at the heart of the brand.

Compostable packaging, deadstock fabrics for runway shows, carbon-neutral runway shows, the use of merino wool, and beyond come together as part of the brand’s sustainability efforts.

The House’s first sustainable sneaker is made with 30% recycled material, and features lace made of 30% recycled polyester. And this is just one example of its commitment to sustainable fashion.

Dior

Dior aims to reduce its environmental footprint and have a positive impact on society.

Inspired by the beauty of flowers and gardens, founder Christian Dior always placed nature at the heart of the house’s vision.

This luxury brand sources cotton, wool, and silk from organic farms, while also using energy generated from renewable sources.

Its packaging is also eco-designed, incorporating recycled materials and promoting the reuse of materials as part of its sustainability practices.

The Oversized Embroidered Book Cover T-Shirt is one example of Dior’s use of 100% organic material.
