In addition to showcasing Moroccan humor, the event aims to stimulate debate, tolerance, and youth engagement of the Fez-Meknes region.

Fez – Earlier this week, Fez witnessed a series of parades passing through the city that marked the start of the 11th edition of the Fez Humor Festival. The event, which kicked off on Tuesday, will run until November 15.

The United Humorists for Culture and Arts Association organized the event with the support of Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication as well as Rabat’s Mohammed V Theater.

In addition to parades on the historic city streets, the performances took place at the Megarama Cinema, among other locations.

Representing the Ministry of Culture, Tahaf Serghini gave his remarks at the festival’s opening, underlining that the event contributes to enhancing Moroccan creativity. “This event now is an annual tradition highly expected, and it contributes much to the cultural and artistic resume of Fez-Meknes,” he was quoted in the press release as stating, insisting on the fact that this supports both local and national artists.

Khadija Adria, Vice-President of the Fes-Meknes Regional Council, also saluted the ongoing partnerships that give life to an event such as this. In her remarks, she underlined the commitment of the council to ensure that the region’s cultural agenda is more represented throughout Morocco.

Adria added it is vital for the region’s locals and the tourism sector to benefit from this representation. This year’s festival reflects the growing reputation of Fez-Meknes as a national center for culture and creativity thanks to active support from regional and national institutions.

For this 11th edition, festival director Mohamed Alami organized a jam-packed and diverse program, offering a mix of both theatrical performance and stand-up comedy.

Notably, Moroccan comedian Mohamed Bassou was a headliner at the event, where he engaged audiences with his popular act titled “Man Zakin.”

Organized under the theme “Fez Smiles,” the festival will conclude tomorrow, after a week of bringing together seasoned and upcoming comedians to perform artistic and musical shows.

Besides showcasing Moroccan humor, the event aims to stimulate debate, tolerance, and the region’s youth engagement.  In this sense, the organizers aspire to offer a space of positive expression, unification, and creativity for the benefit of the local Fez community.
