Marrakech – Renowned painter Abderrahim Yamou is back with his latest works at L’Atelier 21 in Casablanca, running from September 24 to October 26.
This marks Yamou’s seventh solo exhibition at the gallery, promising a fresh exploration of his unique artistic style.
For the past forty years, Yamou has been deeply exploring the world of plant life.
This ongoing reflection has resulted in a distinctive, personal visual language that is instantly recognizable and stands as the artist’s signature style.
In the exhibition catalog, writer Yasmine Chami sheds light on Yamou’s creative process.
“The artist embarks on an investigation that moves between the vertigo of loss and the clarity brought forth by the sensitive representation of what might be on the verge of disappearing for him,” she stated.
“It is this exploration that makes Yamou’s work infinitely precious; the serene uncertainty that opens the canvas, allowing shapes and the forces of life’s transformation to emerge, deeply connecting ‘organic and non-organic vitalities’ in a profound genealogy.”
Yamou’s artistic journey has earned him a place in some of the most prestigious collections across the globe.
His works are proudly displayed by institutions such as the Kamel Lazaar Foundation in Tunisia, the Neuberger Museum of Art in the U.S., and the Written Art Foundation in Germany.
Closer to home, his art has found its way into major Moroccan collections, including Bank Al-Maghrib and Société Générale, as well as the Museum of Contemporary African Art Al Maaden.
Notably, his work is also part of the Nelson Mandela Foundation in South Africa, a testament to the cultural and political impact of his work.
